Portable day out at Hampton Nr Herne Bay, Kent
Paul M0XLD and I had a portable day at
Hampton testing the newly built rotary dipole (see homebrew 3)
These are some photographs of the day.
I used my Yaesu FT897D and Paul was on
his FT857 |
The Yaesu FT897D powered by auxiliary 12v
car battery |
|
You cant have a good portable day without
supplies!
I took the gas cooker, drink supplies and some tinned food for later.
Power was supplied by a 80AH 12 volt car battery which was good for 50
to 80 watts of TX power all afternoon.
Paul M0XLD took his super 2.2Kw new petrol generator, details of its
performance can be obtained by writing to M0XLD's Email! |
Here is the Rotary Dipole as recently
constructed.
I tuned it to 20m for the afternoon as this seemed a useful
all round band for the time of day. The WX was very changeable and with
gusts up to an estimated 30mph the height was kept to a minimum to save
potential damage.
Contacts worked include a variety of NVIS and medium distance
contacts:-
YT9M, F/EI4L thanks for the gr8 QSO John,
GW4PJQ and PD1ANF Thanks for the great report Arie!

Paul M0XLD working my newly purchased 6m Beam designed
and Manufactured by Justin Johnson G0KSC. Contacts worked by Paul that day
include;
IK8EKC in JN70DT
EA5UB in JM08BT
IZ6BXV in JN72CL
EB6ADC in JN29DV
EA3EVL in JN00HR
IK5RLP in JN52LR
EA3NG in JN01OC
EA5HRI in IM97PW
EA3AYQ in JN11MS
Paul also brought along a very small 2m beam which although there was
not much activity we did hear a DL3 station but was unable to QSL. |

The photo furthest left shows both sets
of aerials mounted.
The photo left shows the two beams, The
6m and the 2m below it. Although the 6m looks big in comparison the 2m
beam is tiny! |
The WX was not good when we first
arrived, however as you can see from the photographs this soon changed.
The location was good and some interesting contacts were made, both on 20m
and 6m.
I can't wait to take the rotary dipole to other locations and test it out.
Looking good so far! |
